June 2021 Covid Update

Attention: County Board, Individuals, Families, Guardians and Providers

STAR, Inc. is very excited to announce that starting June 2nd, in accordance with the CDC, ODH, and DODD, we can lift some of our COVID protocols.

Please review the following:

  • We will no longer be operating with limited capacity in confined cohorts. Individuals will be able to move about the building to all activity areas of choice. Lunch and break will now be in the multipurpose room again as well.
  • Following the CDC, we will no longer be requiring masking, social distancing, or daily screening and temperature checks. We will continue regular sanitizing and cleaning.
  • We still ask that you do not come in if you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, or have the following symptoms of coughing, sore throat, or difficulty breathing. We also still ask to be notified if anyone in the household is being tested for COVID-19, tested positive, or is placed under quarantine.
  • There will be ongoing communication with individuals with health risks and their stakeholder team to address ongoing health concerns or accommodations to meet their needs.
  • Community outreach programs (IMPACT and COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS) are starting back up on 6/21/21 and as a result program calendars will be produced again starting in July. Outings are starting to be scheduled both in county and out of county. We are also excited to start trips to the Wheelersburg Pool and have renewed our passes to Shawnee State for use of the gym and pool. Sign-ups will be in the hallway as before as outings come up.
  • We still ask that you call your transportation provider if you are not coming in for any reason. This will reduce unnecessary time spent on transportation for those riding.

STAR, lnc.’s Plan of Action: Guidelines for return to modified operations

In accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Ohio Department of Health

To our Families, Individuals, Providers and Stakeholders:

Under Governor DeWine’s recent emergency directives nearly all the state of Ohio has reopened. STAR, Inc. is considered an essential business and we will reopen Adult Day Habilitation under modified operational guidelines. STAR will be reopening Wednesday July 8th, 2020.

We are following all the guidelines laid out by Governor DeWine, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

We will follow a strict policy and procedure for all our staff and individuals served. For the health and safety of all individuals and staff, staff will continue to wear protective gloves, masks and follow protective cleaning strategies throughout the day.

The STAR building and all vehicles are cleaned and disinfected daily both before and after services. All services areas are stocked daily with gloves, hand sanitizer, and disinfecting wipes.

Screening Process

All Staff will complete health screening prior to each shift. Transporters will screen individuals at the time of the pick-up in the AM. This will include taking temperature with a digital touchless forehead thermometer and filling out the DODD entry screening form.

Neither staff or individuals will be permitted to work or come into STAR if they have a temperature above 100.0 or have been in contact with someone who has a confirmed case of COVID-19.

Transportation

Each STAR, Inc. transport vehicle is equipped with hand sanitizer and essential safety kit that includes: gloves, Clorox disinfecting wipes, digital forehead thermometer and batteries. Individuals are screened every AM pickup before arriving at STAR, Inc. using the DODD entry screening sheet for prevention of COVID-19 transmission.

Vehicles are then cleaned and disinfected after transport. After the individuals are taken home in the PM vehicles are then cleaned and disinfected again prior to the AM shift the following morning .

Morning pick-up / unloading process:

STAR will operate at its regularly scheduled time and Individuals will be assigned a transport route. Prior to loading, individuals will have their temperature taken with a digital touch less forehead thermometer and staff will complete a DODD entry screening form for every individual. All staff, and individuals that can tolerate it, will wear masks during transports .

Upon arrival to STAR vehicles will be unloaded one at a time . Staff will safely and separately assist individuals off the vehicles into the building . Also, markings will be on the floor every 6 feet to assure that proper social distancing is maintained.

Individuals will be taken to (3) separate program areas. Each area has a separate entrance and separate bathrooms. There will be no more than (10) persons to each program area, including both staff and individuals.

Once the program area is assigned the individual and staff will remain assigned to that specific program area until the modified guidelines for operations are lifted. Limiting intermixing will help maintain health and safety.

Afternoon loading process

Staff will assist individuals from the building to their assigned vehicle one at a time. One vehicle will be loaded at a time. This will limit intermixing in accordance with CDC and ODH guidelines on social distancing.

During this time, individuals must bring their own lunch (microwaves, water, soda, and Pizza Friday are available). Until further notice, we will not be providing bowling outings and visitors will be only be allowed on the outside patio area.

Our capacity to serve is limited to (24) individuals and it will be on a first come, first serve basis. If you choose to return to STAR day habilitation services, individuals will be assigned to an area they enjoy, and activities of choice brought to them. Please contact your SSA to complete the state-mandated assessment and set up your return prior to Wednesday, July 1st.

We will continue to work together to be proactive during this time. Please reach out to STAR, Inc. CEO, Kelly Hunter with any questions or concerns.
